To get the full effect of this cache you will need a kayak or
canoe to access this cache. However, I understand that the cache
may also be reached by land, you can ask for directions at the
campground. You are searching for a well hidden ammo can that
leaks. The cache contents are in a lock n lock container inside the
ammo can. About a two mile roundtrip paddle from the boat launch.
Use the parking coords for the
Potter Creek Top Knot cache. There is a $3 fee to park. Don't
forget to search for
Water, Bugs and Bonsai while you are in the area. You can bring
your own kayak/canoe or rent a canoe at the office.
The cache is located up Baird Creek. Once you reach Blue Springs
look for two small openings on either side of an island, then
continue up stream and through another spring. When you reach the
donut you will see an overhanging oak limb, this is about as far as
you can go by kayak/canoe. The final 300 foot walk to the cache is
on a hard sandy bottom in about ankle deep water.
The cache area is well known to the locals and we found some
trash in the area so please bring a bag with you and CITO before
you leave. I had a hard time getting good coordinates (about 25
foot accuracy) because of the tree cover. Enjoy the trip.
