The area to the right of this small boat landing is overgrown with wild rice that provides habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. Sam Lonetree planted the wild rice by packing handfuls of muck from the lake bottom with wild rice and throwing them into the shallow waters. The wild rice flourished much to the delight of wildlife but is unsuitable for human consumption.
