This is a big reservoir; big enough to spend a day here. Fill your cooler, bring your lunch and enjoy an afternoon on the water. Fishing is excellent here as the reservoir was just opened to fisherman a few months ago. With no fishing pressure all these years, there has been plenty of time for the fish to grow quite big. I caught a nice little smallmouth right before we landed to place the cache.
There are some launching areas much closer to the cache available to those with high clearance 4x4's, but you'll have to do your homework to find them (I marked a few waypoints but I'm not telling).
We were surprised to find a well defined woods road and some stone walls on this island. I guess they are the remains of a farm, or other residence before the reservoir was flooded.
Edit: 7/9/05 - Canoeing past this island recently, I found that you can wade to it if you find the right spot. There is an underwater "bridge" that is no more than waist deep that is used by fisherman to reach the island.
