Geocache Description:

This cache is located above the Coyote Wall syncline*, across the Columbia from Mosier.

Reaching the cache requires a hike of 1.5 to 2 miles each way, and an elevation gain of about 1500 feet, so take some water. The views of the river, the syncline and Mt Hood are fantastic from the trail, where you will find, depending on season, small waterfalls and wildflowers.

It is best to park at N45 41.980; W121 24.200, and then walk east along old Hwy 14 for 1/4 mile or so until you reach a trail leading up the TOPSIDE of the syncline. You can also park on the shoulder of the new Highway a little further east. Don't get too close to the edge of the cliffs!

When we placed the cache we took the "high road" along the top of the cliffs, however, "evergreenhiker!" has discovered a "loop" whereby you can take in the "Coyote Cabin" cache, and then continue on on the lower side of the cliffs, and access a trail which zig-zags up to the top, so you can then reach this cache and return via the top of the cliffs. In the next couple of weeks we will check this out and if we are successful we will give the coordinates of the turnoff which he describes. Thank you "evergreenhiker!".

* A fold of rock layers that is convex downwards.
