Geocache Description:

A short but steep hike takes you up through volcanic pinnacles to this airy cache.

Tuff is a kind of rock composed of consolidated volcanic ash. It tends to erode into interesting spires, tent rocks, and other shapes. It is quite common in the Jemez Mountains to the NE, but this area is one of the few examples I have found of it around Mt. Taylor.

A direct assault on this cache position from the east will probably lead you to the base of a cliff, so I suggest approaching along the ridge from the NE. I found the east side of the ridge to be pleasant Ponderosa forest, while the west side has more dense vegetation. Part of the fun of this cache is finding your own route to it, and seeing interesting rock formations along the way.

The last 20 feet to the cache will be the hardest, unless you chose a really challenging way to get there. It's a scramble, with some exposure, but not difficult. Enjoy the view when you get up there.
