The Keihin industrial zone is one of the maximum industrial zones in the industrialized-Japan.The roots of the Keihin industrial zone is around here.
This region had been development as KitaShinagawaJuku in Tokaido before Edo period. Here was precincts of Tokaiji temple. The first glass factory in Japan was built in 1873 within the enclosure of this temple.This glass factory dissolved at 1892 without concluding successfully so much in bussiness, but it greatly contributed to establishment and development such as the following factory or company such as Sankyo medicine manufacture, Nikon, and Toshiba.Other various factories were constructed by using the water transportation of the Meguro river that flowed in the vicinity in Meiji period. We can say there are the roots of Keihin industrial zone.
By the way, there is a graveyard in the Tokaiji temple nearby this cache. There are grave of Takuwan (He opened this temple), Kamono Mabuchi (was famous failings), Inoue Masaru (was known as the "father of the Japanese railways").

工業国日本の中でも京浜工業地帯は最大の工業地帯のひとつですが、その京浜工業地帯はこのあたりを発祥としています。
この地は、江戸時代以前から東海道の北品川宿として開けており、この場所は東海寺という名刹の境内でした。その東海寺の境内に日本最初のガラス工場が1873(明治6)年に作られました。このガラス工場は経営的にはあまり成功を収めることができないまま1892(明治25)年に解散となりましたが、後の三共製薬、ニコン、東芝などの設立・発展に大きく寄与しました。また、この地域は近くを流れる目黒川の水運を利用することができたため、このガラス工場の他にもさまざまな工場が建設され、後の京浜工業地帯のルーツともいわれています。
このキャッシュの場所の奥には東海寺の墓地があり、東海寺を開いた沢庵宗彭（宮本武蔵と関係の深かったとされますが史実ではないようです。また「たくわん」を考案したとされますがこれも俗説のようです）や江戸時代の国学者の賀茂真淵、文人・服部南郭、日本の鉄道の父・井上勝などの墓があります。
