Learn all about the history of the Snuff Mill through our fantastic new exhibitions and hands-on activities.

Rose garden
The restored rose garden was originally laid out by Gilliat Hatfeild, former owner of Morden Hall Park, in 1922. It comes alive each summer with 25 varieties of florabunda roses displayed across 38 flowerbeds. Visit between May and September to experience the rich aroma of the roses in full bloom.

River Wandle and wetlands
Water lies at the heart of Morden Hall Park. Stroll alongside the River Wandle, waterways, mill ponds and a lake as you explore the estate. The lush wetlands, riverbanks and islands provide homes to a variety of plants, animals, insects and birdlife. Look out for wildfowl, heron and the brilliant blue of a kingfisher.

Parkland and meadows
The parkland, moat, bridges and avenues of grand trees you see today were mostly created in the 1860s and 70s, but the surrounding meadows are the remnants of fields that were last farmed in late medieval times. You can still see traces of ridge and furrow ploughing here. Now the meadows are rich in grasses and wildflowers.

Snuff Mill
The Hatfeild family who created Morden Hall Park made their money from snuff-milling. Along the river lies the site of two 18th-century watermills, used to grind tobacco into a powder, after it had been dried in kilns. The business was shut down in 1922 after the workers went on strike. Grinding stones can be seen outside the building which is now our Environmental Centre.

Riverside Café & the walled kitchen garden
The walled kitchen garden once employed 14 gardeners!
