Recently, Su
Doku has gone from relative obscurity
to a puzzle phenomenon in the U.S. My wife likes to solve these
puzzles, and I thought it would be a good idea for a quick cache.
Since “Dog Days” went missing in North Branch Park, I decided to
replace it with this one.
The rules of
Su Doku are easy: Fill in the grid
so that every row, every column, and every 3 x 3 box contains the
digits 1 through 9. Once you have solved the puzzle, you
can derive the cache coordinates by adding or subtracting the
values given below to the listed cache coordinates. To derive each
digit in the templates, substitute the
value at the specified row and column of the solved
puzzle.
Example:
[1,3] = 9
Subtract
0.[1,5][7,8][6,2]
minutes from the latitude
Add
0.[4,6][3,3][7,5]
minutes to the longitude

The cache is a 1” by
5” tube and is located a short distance off of a trail in a wooded
area of North Branch Park. You’ll find the trail head near the bank
of the river; no bushwhacking is required to get close to the
cache.
