Geocache Description:

Let's get together to share some good times, good food, and a good way to help GXing victims of Hurricane Charley.  Please join us.

GeoCachers Emergency Management Agency
First collection meeting to be held:
Saturday, September 4
10:00 AM until 2:00 PM
Philippe Park, Shelter #7

We've been doing some thought-provoking reading lately, and would like to do something for those victimized by Hurricane Charley. Going farther back in recent history, we also have been promising a memorable GeoEvent for the beginning of the Labor Day weekend for these past six months, ever since last spring at the Ajaja Ajaja's CITO event...

Hmmm, says me to my listening ear, how do we do something for Charley's victims AND hold a memorable GeoEvent on Labor Day Saturday... and can we do them at the SAME TIME?... Are we thinking CITO event? Maybe... Nah, we want the GeoEvent to be held locally, so the location will not be the responsibility of someone along Charley's wake...

Straight from the Headlines:

$24 Million in Charley Disaster Aid Approved
The week after Hurricane Charley made landfall, the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved more than $24 million in disaster aid to 10,027 households.  More than 600 FEMA community relations personnel are in the field conducting door-to-door operations.

Hello fellow geocachers!
Although we live in Punta Gorda, we are pleased to announce that Goofy and Butterfly are physically fine!  We hope you are all fine too!! However, we have no idea how our caches faired.  We are disabling ALL our caches until they can be checked out and/or replaced. If anyone would like to help us check them out we would appreciate it, since we are extremely busy with our homes and businesses right now, or what is left of them, and others in need. Just email us if you can, and we will give you the exact co-ords, containers, and details. In any case, they will be all up and running sometime in the near future we hope. Thanks to all for your help and wishes!

If Charley did not found this cache, it will be a "Category 5 Hurricane Proof Cache". Or, if Charley found this cache, I wonder where he rehided it - Virginia perhaps? Quite an irony with this cache; a finnish storm chaser sends a cache to Doc-Dean, then comes Friday the 13th and hurricane hits right where this cache is/was hidden...

Can't wait to hear if it's still there...

Regards, Captain Morgan

Checked on this one today in my post-Charley cache-maintenance.  The cache was still there, but it needed a little TLC.  I'll put it back soon.

I have to archive this, because I am not sure if it is still there.  I don't have any free time to find it, so if anyone who knows where it is gets a chance, would you check it out for me. Hurricane Charley is a real bummer, and is probably going to keep me very busy for a few weeks.  Hope everyone is faring well.....FMW

See previous entry.  Cache is MIA die to Hurricane Charley.  If I get some free time.......

Now back to the GeoEvent

So here is our proposition to you all.  If FEMA can give disaster aid, so can GEMA.  Come share the usual potluck lunch/picnic with us.  In addition to something to share eating-wise, please bring some cache containers and/or cache contents to donate to victimized GXers along Charley's wake. We will hold a camouflaging clinic to paint containers, we will have a cache stuffing station to get them ready for placement, and we will sort them based on size (regular or micro) and suitable location (urban or trail). These will be delivered to representatives from Charley's wake zones and distributed for placement at, for lack of a better name right now,
"Charley's Survivors GeoEvents,"
some time in the near future.  Hope you can join us for this, our first GEMA collection meeting.

Fee-based GeoCamping Event the same night at MoLaNaPa's Water Tower Meadow -- check out MoLaNaPa GeoEvent #2 - Find 'em Cacher.

~~  Have a blessed day. Happy caching.  ~~  YK
