The Tempest - Redux Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

muchado: Another Shakespeare cache to get archived, I can't keep up with the maintenance. I always feel bad for cachers who go there and DNF because it's been muggled once again. This is a great area but there's no easy place to hide a cache that is hard for a muggle to find. Thanks to all who visited.

Geocache Description:

A visit to Riverside Park in Merrimack.

This cache is inspired by Shakespeare's comedy The Tempest. As I was exploring this park, I was drawn to a special spot. At this spot, the sounds and the sights reminded me a bit of the storm in The Tempest. It makes me think of an illustration I saw with Prospero standing on the rocks surrounded by swirling water, holding up his staff. A synopsis of the play as well as the full text can be found here. There have been several television adaptations and even a few movie adaptations of The Tempest, but none have really been noteworthy.

"Look he's winding up the watch of his wit; by and by it will strike."
(Act II, Scene I)

Like all my other Shakespeare caches, you do not have to read the play to find the cache.

Why A Redux?

This cache and one nearby - Coriolanus - have had a lot of muggling problems since I first put them out. First, I tried making them premium caches and they were still muggled almost as soon as I repaired them. I now believe these caches are being intentionally muggled. I'm using a complex puzzle to keep their location further shrouded. Normally, I would just archive these caches, but I'm trying to keep them alive for those who are trying to finish the series.

The Special Spot

Make your way to the Tempest at the posted coordinates and take some time to enjoy the sights and sounds. Raise your hiking staff and imagine yourself as Prospero.

The Puzzle

This puzzle is difficult to solve. I will give no hints or guidance to anyone until you have twenty or more of my other Shakespeare caches. Once you have found the prerequisite number of caches, I will give you as much help as you want.

Please Note

  • Although night caching is not prohibited, parking and the trail head are visible from private residences. So I don't recommend night caching.
  • Since this is a replacement for the original cache, you do not have to find this cache if you found the original as far as the Shakespeare series is concerned.
