Remote area. 5 to 10 minute drive on BLM Road #3038, a somewhat rough dirt car-road off of HWY 149. (This road is closed from March 15 until May 15.) No definite trail to cache. 10 to 15 minute rocky, rubbly hike. Elevation 8450'. Wear good hiking shoes, and BE PREPARED FOR WIND!
Turn west off of HWY 149 onto BLM Road #3038 at milemarker 112. (See waypoint chart below.)
Rough, rocky, dirt car-road follows a powerline. This road is not nearly as bad as it looks -- just use your low gear. Drive all the way up to the saddle and park. There is no definite trail to the cache, but there are faint game trails.
Bring a camera! Blaine Rock is stunning -- it's worth the hike. Great views of Blue Mesa Reservoir and the vastness of Kezar Basin below. You'll be hiking through volcanic rock and the remnants of volcanic eruptions and ash flows.
This cache is one of several caches around Blue Mesa Reservoir. Cache is in a clear plastic box with a red rim.
***Hunting Season Advisory***
Hunting seasons are in September and October. If you venture out during hunting season, be sure to wear some blaze orange and be noisy.
