This cache is located at Camp Comeca, a really cool place!! Check
their website for
directions and pictures.
Maybe we could have a Geocaching meeting up
here! If anyone wants
to organize it, count me in!!
Greet the staff members if you see them, tell them why you’re
here!
One more rule: Try to stay outdoors during your visit, unless you
have permission from a staff
member. Most
businesses in Cozad have restrooms, please use them before coming
to the camp.
If I’ve done this correctly, this should be a real
treat!! It’s called
“Mike’s Ultimate Cache” because this will probably be my only
treasure cache, and I want it to be
awesome! I believe it
has everything any cacher would want:
1.
A huge cache, filled with…
2.
Lots of high-value treasure, found after…
3.
A nice walk, in…
4.
A very beautiful place!!
Let’s go in order:
1. The Cache is
big!
It's a big plastic tub, about the size of a laundry
basket.
2. Here’s a partial
list of the booty:
Three books, all registered on Bookcrossing (I’m Mmarshall, there
too.), three DVD’s, soft foam nunchakus, a kaleidoscope, two
electronic games, an official geocaching logbook and pencil, a
“little bag” with various coins, trading cards, a guitar pick, a
giant dollar bill from the Geotruckers, and a pencil sharpener
(don’t take that!).
Also many more little knickknacks, thanks to Connie at Camp Comeca
for the logo items in the cache!
3. Before your nice
walk, you get a nice drive, 7.5 miles from Cozad, the nearest town.
Approx. a 6% grade on the drive up, use low gear on the way
back! The parking lot
is marked with a
waypoint. Check out
the tower at the next waypoint, you can see a lot of the camp, and
plan which of several routes you’ll take to the first
cache. It will be about
.4 miles to the first
cache. Check out the
scenery, you can see the whole county from
here! Here you will
find the coordinates for the main cache, which is another .6 miles,
then another .24 miles back to your car. You will see at least 15%
grades, one road has a sustained grade of -10%, you will get a good
workout on the way back!! The hint below will help with the first
cache, but it is VERY specific, use with caution!!
4. This is a beautiful
place! It’s big, it’s
way up high, and you can see a long
ways. They try very
hard to keep the place clean (I should know, my Dad’s the
groundskeeper!) You
probably won’t see any trash, but if you do, please practice your
CITO!! (Trash bags are
in the cache!) There’s
many more places to walk, so spend some time and enjoy
yourself!!
Warning:
This place sticks way
up above the Nebraska Plains, and can be a magnet for any storm
coming by! Keep an eye
on the clouds, and an ear on the
radio. Recent snow or
rain may make the driving difficult, and the hiking
worse. Please keep
this in mind!
