My Great Grandfather was Dennis Bowthorpe. He worked a lot up Big Cottonwood Canyon in his younger years. He would haul freight up the canyon and bring ore down the canyon. He was responsible for building the road up Silver Fork Canyon to the Alta Tunnel mine. He was also responsible for something else that most people don’t even notice about the canyon. If you are familiar with Big Cottonwood Canyon, you will notice that there aren’t any Ponderosa Pine trees in the entire canyon. However, in a little gulch just below the Mill D North Fork trailhead is a grove of Ponderosa Pines that my Great Grandfather planted over 100 years ago. I guess he just wanted to see if they would grow there and sure enough they did.

June 9, 2008 - I am surprised that no one can find this. I don't think that it is a hard cache. It might be hidden quite well but I think that my hint should narrow it down a lot. The cache is doing great. I'll update the coordinates but they were only off by 15 feet or so. I also made the difficulty listing for this higher but it is right off the road and shouldn't be too hard. Good Luck.

This game is supposed to be fun. Placing caches in the mountains REALLY requires detailed hints (like how far up the hill to look) because the GPS 'bounces' so much, really! Looking and not finding is not so fun. I had just hiked 7.5 miles; I was out of water; I spent hours looking for caches that I could not find; and I'm old. I found the biggest diameter trees and searched down to the smallest, no luck. Thanks for the cache anyway.

We spent 30 minutes searching the entire area around the coordinates but didn't find it. Turned over every rock, locked up and down low...no luck. Any additional hints?
