Flash
Mob Cache Event aka A Flash Cache Event
We would like to host a caching event to
bring together geocachers and introduce
others (newbies) to the hobby.
This event, however, will be quite unique, creative, be the first
of its kind (as far as we know of) and might be the fore-runner of
a new type of event.
You're heard of mega-events? This is quite the opposite in a
variety of ways. Flash mobs have gathered for other reasons
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_mob)
but never before for geocaching.
Come be part of this historic event!
The event will last exactly 15 minutes, not one second longer.
The event will begin precisely at 11:00am on Sunday, May 20th at
the above coordinates. This is in an open public space, on Alamo
Plaza, in front of the Alamo. The event will be highly organized
and facilitated by volunteers.
(We
are still in need of a few Volunteers. If you would like to help
out contact me through my profile above.)
Schedule of Events:
IMPORTANT: If you get to the area
before 11AM, mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look
like a muggle tourist! Don't look like a gathering waiting to
happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part of the fun.
We will seem to appear out of nowhere so that muggles will not know
what is going on.
The event will be tightly organized with a
minute-by-minute itinerary (synchronized with the GPS clock, of
course). We will also have printed copies of this ultra-precise
itinerary distributed at the event:
11:00 – I, your host, will place a bucket of
very nice swag and a small CD player on the ground at the
coordinates to signal the start. Quickly gather around. Trade swag
from the bucket. Bring nice swag to trade.
11:01 - You will be handed an individual log
sheet to sign (bring a pen) and drop in a special box. The sheets
will we used for a raffle and will later become the log book.
Simultaneously, participants will mingle, share stories, brag,
trade swag, and CITO the area.
If muggles are
curious about the event we will have a handout that explains
geocaching.
11:05 - Chocolate kisses distributed as the
official "meal."
11:10 - Group photo in front of the Alamo.
Get there FAST and listen to the photographer for directions.
11:12 - Raffle for special prizes.
11:14 - One minute warning. Prep to leave
but don't "look" like your are prepping. (You might want to
"secretly" organize where you will re-form after dispersal.)
11:15 - Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area
as quickly as you gathered. Act like nothing happened. Meet
elsewhere if desired. The log sheet collection box will be packed
up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace.
Although participants are welcome to get together for eating,
socializing, caching or whatever after the event, the event will
officially be over at 11:15. Please be sure to CITO the area on
the way out!
Smile at the muggles nearby who will wonder
"What did I just see? What just happened?"
We hope to gather a "good showing" of cachers
at this event. Tell your friends and help promote the event.
Suggestion: COME EARLY TO
FIND PARKING. If you can't find parking you might miss the
event!
