Geocache Description:

Go NOW! This Cache is endangered and will disappear soon.

[The cache has been replaced with the original container and log in the original location. I thought about replacing the log, but there's still plenty of room on the back and I like reading through the logs.] Part of the Hudson River park and pathway, this location is educational, recreational, and indeed beautiful.

When we go on vacation, we find that many of the cache locations are places that the guidebooks don't mention. They often are in parts of the city where "real people" go, and not just the tourists. This specific location (which I hope meets the above criteria) is an easy find with no terrain difficulties, though I'd recommend you go during the day or early evening though there's nothing stopping you from a night cache. It's incredible how many New Yorkers take advantage of this, and how few visitors know about it.

This cache is a 35mm film container. It is tucked away and will be hard to find. In fact, I hope it is, since it's such a public place. No digging is required! It is not inside the fence! The hint will not give everything away, expect to have to bend over backwards for this one. Bring a pen, the only thing in this cache is the log. The first log entry has some excellent additional clues if mine aren't enough.

There are several interesting and worthwhile ways to spend your time nearby. The most obvious is to use a bike, rollerblades or your feet on the excellent path along the Hudson River. Spend enough time and you'll see that this is actually an estuary, where the tide pushes back against the river.

Well worth a visit, especially with children is the Hudson River Project, an environmental organization focused on education about the river ecology and bringing back much of the wildlife that used to be here. There are some interesting displays and fish tanks.

If you feel like "doing" rather than "seeing", you should stop by the Downtown Boathouse. Check the website for hours, but on weekends, they often have free kayacking.

Of course watching the students at the trapeze school or the skate park nearby is an easy way to spend 5 minutes.

Enjoy!
