Pallisers Triangle
Named after John Palliser, who led a survey through the area in 1863, is a semi arid steppe region in the prairie provinces of western Canada. He reported it as unsuitable for agriculture because of its unfavorable climate and soil.
Several years later, John Macoun, a government official, argued that it would be good for growing wheat and advertized it as such to immigrant farmers. The "Triangle" began to be settled and farmed buy the start of the 20th century.
Great debates still rage over whether the prairie sod should have been broke!
Here, at this cache location, you will find a piece of that history.
