I like to go fishing and catching stuff is a real bonus. The real
prize is being on the water or taking in the ambiance of Port
Aransas.
This site is a WWII relic. It was a coastal gun emplacement.
There were a number of these on the Gulf Coast due to a scare of
raids by the German submarine wolf pack. There were no such raids,
but boats were sighted in the Atlantic Ocean.
The posted coordinates should be pretty close, but if you have
trouble finding it try this. Stand in the middle of the concrete
circle facing the South (right hand) Jetty. Take a few steps toward
the road until the two power poles that you see are aligned with
each other. Turn 180 degrees back towards town and take 30 paces.
It should take you outside the circle and over a small dune. At the
bottom of that dune is a rectangular block and under that block is
the cache. Try not to crush the poor cache when returning it. Also,
don’t walk straight to the cache from the road. Park by the
power pole and go up the clear easy trail to the top.
I understand that George has decided that in the name of
national security these guns should be replaced. The 1.6 Billion
dollar project has been awarded to Halliburton.
