Na verdade, chama-se o Poço do Monte Negro. Situa-se num ambiente rural, à semelhança de muitos outros. A sua idade é desconhecida mas supõe-se que tem algumas centenas de anos. A solidez da construção e a sua arquitetura, invulgares nos poços do território municipal, revelam que foi projetado e concebido com sabedoria e técnica excecionais. À beira dele passam muitos caminhantes e ciclistas que percorrem os caminhos e encruzilhadas dos percursos pedestres da vila de S. Brás de Alportel.
Pois quem não gostaria de realizar desejos atirando moedas para dentro de um poço? O costume vem da Grécia antiga, uma região seca onde os poços de água eram fundamentais para a sobrevivência. Os homens da época acreditavam que cada poço era protegido por um espírito ou divindade e que jogar moedas para dentro deles garantiria água abundante para todo o ano. Os poços também estavam associados à sorte e à fertilidade. Com o tempo, o costume espalhou-se e tornou-se popular. Superstição? Talvez…ou talvez não…porque não experimenta?

Actually called Poço do Monte Negro. It’ s located in a rural environment, like many others. Its age is unknown but it’s very likely to have a few hundred years. Its solid constructionand its architecture, unusual in the weels of the municipal territories, show that it was engeneered and designed with exceptional wisdom and technique. Many walkers and cyclists pass near ir while going through the paths and crossroads of footpaths from the village of S. Brás de Alportel.
Who wouldn’t like to make wishes throwing coins into a well? The costum comes from ancient Greece, a dry region where water wells were essential for survival. At that time, people believed that each well was protected by a spirit or deity and throw coins into them to ensure abundant water for the whole year. The wells were also associated to luck and fertility. Over time, the costum spread and became popular. Superstition? Maybe…or maybe not…why don’t you try?
