Not the one on the Lizard peninsula, but this one is situated on the north coast of Cornwall. We have found two meanings for Kynance. It means "Dog Valley" in the Cornish language but we don't know why this cove or its more famous namesake got this name. In view of this name however, we thought it would be an ideal place to start our "Black Dog" TB on his travels.
We have also discovered that the word Kynance comes from the Celtic Keynans meaning enclosed valley although we have been unable to see the connection with this location.
For a short walk, park at the top of the hill in the large National Trust car park. If you want to make a longer walk, we would suggest parking at N50 14 128, W005 22 040 where there is free parking and space for several cars, and following the coast path towards Godrevy. This path will take you past the Knavocks where you may find ponies grazing. A slight diversion will take you to the trig point and some fantastic views. Please keep dogs on leads when passing through this area and don't approach or feed the ponies. The coastline between Navax Point and Godrevy is owned by the National Trust. The path from this parking area tends to get very muddy after rain, so you may want to wear boots.
You may be lucky enough to spot grey seals, guillemot, razorbill, fulmar and cormorant along the cliffs and in the spring and summer you will see a mass of wild flowers..
As always when walking on the coast path keep dogs and children under close control as there are high cliffs here.
This cache is situated on the landward side of the coast path. Please treat the area gently and replace the cache very carefully. THE CACHE IS NOT HIDDEN IN THE CORNISH HEDGE. No spoiler photos please.
