Geocache Description:

East Clear Creek Cache: Elevation is 6530'

This Cache is along East Clear Creek. The best way to get there from Phoenix is:
Get on the Beeline Hwy (87) and go through Payson. Continue north on 87 through Pine then Strawberry. Continue Northeast through Clints Well. About 8-10 miles past Clints Well is a ranger station. Go past the ranger station and take the next right. You are on the top of the Mogollon Rim about to descend to East Clear Creek. Travel down the dirt road and you will hit some steep grade. At 4-5 miles you will cross a bridge. There is parking on both sides and depending on the season the water can be very low or almost coming over the top of the bridge. Coordinates to the parking spot are: N 34 32.422 W 111 09.023
Once you park follow the stream NE (downstream) to the Cache. Depending on your load it should take you at least 2 hours. We camped over night on a beautiful beach.

Disclaimer: Most of my Caches are difficult, this cache is no exception. It will take commitment. I make no apologies. The easy ones are in town and you can locate a dozen a day. There comes a point in your hike were you will have to decide: Swim or climb. I took inflatable tubes to float our packs but did not use them and we did a little hand over hand along the cliffs. Once you are past the tough part the rest of the river is yours. Rarely does anyone go past this point. Fishing gets better too! Plan other things along the way. Look for animals. We saw a beaver, Geese, lots of elk tracks and lots of little garder snakes. These are the true finds. The Cache is right next to an elk trail. Good Luck!
