The cache is named for the newts that live among the ferns and Bay Laurel Trees found in this part of the park. By lucky chance, a newt volunteered today to guard the cache location (see pic).
Cache initially contains various family friendly doo-dads, logbook, pen and pencil, and is located less than half mile from the Briones Road Staging Area. The hike was easily handled by my almost 4-year old son, who helped place the cache and spotted the newt at the cache site.
Although a direct overland route is possible (SnoWake), the cache is located less than 25 feet from a sticker-free single track trail. At worst, one fence crossing is needed, but an opening is provided along the trail. The challenge is finding the right trail!
This cache is nearing it's 10 year anniversary. To keep it from being muggled, please rehide the cache in a similar manner as found (and be kind to the newt!)
