Located on the famous Rubicon OHV trail this would also make a nice day hike from Loon Lake.
Buck Island Lake is a popular overnight stop on the Rubicon Trail. The cache is located among the granite slabs that surround the lake. I place the cache in a location that may be accessible to cross country skiers even with a deep snow pack. The clue gives a detailed description of the hiding spot so don't decode unless you really need to.

This was our target cache and we grabbed it after settling in to camp and a quick swim. We approached from the best direction even without the hints and I *lamely* managed to peel my finger back off the nail a bit and drew blood. Given the unique difficulty rating and the location, it was a small price to pay! TNLNSL. TFTC!

Ah, the destination cache for calipidder's overnight backpack to B.I.L. Thanks for the 5-star, and TFTC! The lake was pretty, the mosquitoes were light, and the fish were even lighter.

This was the destination cache for the GBA Backpack III - mostly because I was planning it and I needed this cache for a fizzy square. :) After getting to Buck Island lake, setting up camp, and washing off the trail dust with a swim, bthomas, escooby and I took off to hike around the lake and pick up a few caches.

It was a really nice hike and I am so glad to have this square filled. Thanks!
