Geocache Description:

First in new series of caches sprinkled in this little burg.

Once known as Drytown, Staufferstown, and Pinchgut, the town of Mechanicsburg has an eclectic history. Named for a settlement of mechanics who repaired and made wagons in the early 1800's, McBurg's continued growth has been influenced to a large degree by the Cumberland Valley Railroad and the emergence of the adjacent Naval Ships Parts Control Center

Perhaps most notably, McBurg has the distinction of being the northernmost town to fall to the Army of the Northern Virginia which captured the town on June 28, 1864.

This location brings you within sight of the remarkably well-preserved 1910 sign welcoming you to the borough. OK – it just looks like it was constructed about that time. Can you say image face-lift needed?

Please note that the park is closed from 10 pm to 7 am.
