Geocache Description:

This cache is NOT at the listed coordinates but it is nearby on the trail. Solve the puzzle to get the correct coordinates.

Shawnee is part of the Central Algonquian language group and considered endangered since only about 200 Shawnee speak this language today.

The original Shawnee had no written language. During the late 19th century and early 20th century, a number of spelling systems for Shawnee were developed by missionaries, linguists and anthropologists. One system was devised by Thomas Wildcat Alford, an Oklahoma Shawnee speaker and great grandson of Tecumseh. None of these spelling systems were widely adopted. Therefore, there is no correct agreed upon way to spell Shawnee words and many variations exist.

The following puzzle uses a phonetic system for Shawnee numbers as recorded by Piqua OH Indian Agent Col. John Johnston in 1858. Use the 6 Famous Shawnee Leaders of Ohio Series caches along this paved trail to get the translation.

N Nithese Nialinwe+Newe Negate Negate.Newe Nithese Negotewathe+Nithese
W Nithese-Nithese Newe+Newe Newe Neshwa Nialinwe+Newe.Nialinwe Neshwa Nialinwe
