Mesto As
Mesto As je zname textilnim prumyslem. Jadro mesta je obklopene
udolim Asskeho potoka (Aesch) a je ohraniceno sesti kopci. Mesto se
rozrostlo az k hranici s Bavorskem. Na zapadni strane jej obklopuje
vrch Kaplanka, Selbsky vrch a dale Velky i Maly kuzel. Udoli na
jihu uzavira Assky vrch a na vychode je to Skrivanci vrch a vrch
Haj (Hainberg) s jeho rozhlednou. Vrch Haj se svymi 753 m je 2.
nejvyssim vrchem Halstrovskeho pohori a zaroven nejvice
navstevovanejsim vyletnim mistem pro obyvatele mesta a jeho okoli.
Vrch Kaplanka, Selbsky vrch, Velky a Maly kuzel je mistem
stredoevropskeho vodniho rozhrani. Na zapadni strane steka voda do
Ohre a k rece Saale a z vychodnich svahu vrchu steka pres Assky
potok do Halstrovky (Elster). Okolni lesnate strane jsou prevazne
smrkove. Podnebi je drsne coz znamena dlouhe, studene zimy
(trvajici 4-5 mesicu) a jen velmi kratka leta.
V roce 1939, pri poslednim scitani obyvatel, se mesto As rozkladalo
na cca 1.608 ha a melo 23.130 obyvatel, kteri byli prevazne
evangelickeho vyznani a skoro 100 % nemecke narodnosti. V Asi se
mluvilo starobavorskym narecim tzv.?hornofalcskym? z Horniho Falce.
Mimo Assky okres se mluvilo na vychodni a severni strane
vogtlandsko-saskym narecim, na jihu tzv.?egerlandstinou? a na
sevorozapade franskym narecim. Pouze na zapade a jihozapade, kde
okres hranici se selbskym uzemim, se mluvilo stejnym narecim. Z
tohoto kraje byla take oblast pred cca 800 lety osidlena..

Mesto As bylo hlavnim sidlem textilniho prumyslu zapadnich Sudet. V
dnesni dobe nema mesto ani z poloviny tolik obyvatel jako v
minulosti. Jedna se pritom o ceske obcany, kteri s osidlenim a
vystavbou mesta nemeli nikdy nic spolecneho.
The City of As
The town of As is situated in the west of Bohemia, in the county of
Karlovy Vary and the township of Cheb. It is situated in the
so-called Hook of As and it is surrounded by Germany (Bavaria and
Saxony) from 3 sides. As is the westernmost city of the Czech
Republic. There is one border checkpoint with Germany right in As
and couple other ones in the close environs of As. The name of As
originated from a German name of a fish – grayling, which is
seen in our town shield as well.
The first written notice comes from the year of 1270. During the
14th century the Zedwitz Family obtained the rule of the whole
territory and they had been influencing the history of As for other
600 years. Since their influence, As remained the only protestant
territory in our country after the Thirty-Year’s War. Since
the 18th century, the textile manufacture had been developing and
for very long time it had been determining the main industrial
character of our region. In the town you can still see couple of
historically significant buildings and monuments such as the town
hall building and the museum, where you can see a very rare
collection of 25.000 pairs of gloves in Europe. One of the oldest
small monuments we can consider a couple of stone killing cross
pieces. Their all-state evidence is administered right in our local
museum. In As, you have this awesome possibility to see the
Reformer Luther Statue, the only one in our country, and lots of
other interesting monuments. Our stone Bismarck view-tower on the
top of the peak Haj is one of the most famous view-points in
As.
Stadt Asch As
Asch ist eine Stadt im Westen von Böhmen in der Karlsbaderee
Region, im Landkreis Eger. Die Stadt Asch liegt in dem Ascher
Zipfel dreiseitig von Deutschland (Bayern und Sachsen) umringt.
Asch ist die westlichst gelegene Stadt Tschechiens. Direkt in Asch
und unmittelbarer Umgebung gibt es mehrere tschechisch-deutsche
Grenzübergänge. Der Name der Stadt ist vom deutschen Wort "Äsche"
(Fisch) abgeleitet, dieser ist auch im Stadtwappen
abgebildet.
Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung stammt aus dem Jahre 1270. Seit dem
14. Jahrhundert gehörte das ganze Gebiet den Zedwitzern, die die
Geschichte der Stadt über mehr als 600 Jahre beeinflusst haben.
Nicht zuletzt durch deren Einfluss blieb Asch nach dem
Dreißigjährigen Krieg das einzige protestantische Gebiet in Böhmen.
Seit dem 18. Jahrhundert entwickelte sich hier die
Textilherstellung, die diesem Ort für eine lange Zeit stark
charakterlich prägte.
In der Stadt blieben sehr viele bedeutende Sehenswürdigkeiten
erhalten. Z.B. das Rathaus, das Museum, in dem die grösste
europäische Handschuhausstellung zu besichtigen ist (über 25.000
Paare). Zu den ältesten (kleinen) Sehenswürdigkeiten gehören die
steinerenen Sühnkreuze. Deren landesweite Evidenz wird vom Ascher
Museum geleitet und verwaltet. Außerdem gibt es in Asch die einzige
Skulptur des Reformators Martin Luther in ganz Tschechien zu
bewundern. Eine weitere dominierende Sehenswürdigkeit der Stadt ist
auch der Bismarck-Steinaussichtsturm auf dem
Heinberg.
