Jules Verne Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

-Rusty-: Greetings,

While Geocaching.com would like to continue to hold the location for you, doing so blocks other cachers from placing caches in the area. We feel that this cache has been disabled for a period of time exceeding what is reasonable for the area, and thus I regretfully must archive it.

If you are able to get out and replace the cache, simply drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. I will be more than happy to take a look at it to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

Thank you,

Rusty...

Geocache Description:

Don’t have time for a voyage around the world? I'll bet you have a few hours to chase around the Blue Water Area in a game of international hide-and-seek.

DO NOT GO TO THE COORDINATES TO LOOK FOR THE CACHE. There is no cache there.
In the spirit of adventure and mayhem that keeps Jules Verne's 1873 novel Around the World in 80 Days interesting even today, I propose to send you on a frustrating romp through Michigan and Ontario.

I've placed five travel bugs in caches hidden in St. Clair and Lambton counties (St. Clair County being in Michigan north and west of the U.S.-Canada border, and Lambton County east and south.) Your job is to chase them down and keep them moving.

Recover the five travel bugs:

  • Phileas Fogg, world adventurer and London man-about-town
  • Jean Passepartout, his manservant and just maybe something else
  • Inspector Fix, not quite the best of Scotland Yard
  • Andrew Stuart, with Fogg, a member of the Reform Club. He proposed the wager that sent Fogg, Passepartout and Fix around the world.
  • Princess Aouda, movies have to have a romantic angle, don't they? Shirley MacLaine played the princess, opposite David Niven, in the 1956 best-picture Oscar winner based on Verne's book.

When you log that you've moved the travel bugs to other caches (a different one for each character), I'll email you the coordinates of the cache.

I hope you can follow two rules for moving Fogg, Passepartout, Fix, Stuart and the princess: Please don’t move them more than 50 miles from the Blue Water Bridge (the coordinates given for this cache page). And please don't let more than three of them congregate on one side of the border.

Follow these links to the five travelers:
  • Phileas Fogg
  • Jean Passpartout
  • Inspector Fix
  • Princess Aouda
  • Andrew Stuart

Here is your real challenge: Things have changed some since Verne's era. Eighty days is no longer a big deal. Theoretically, with the right airline tickets and cooperative weather and air traffic controllers, you could traverse the globe in five hours or so. Can you find all five bugs in the same time span?

First-finder prize is virgin travel bug and Target gift card. The cache has a travel theme, and starts out containing maps and other travel items. Nobody ever does, but please try to stick to the theme.

    Bon voyage.
