Geocache Description:

Off the A5 at the west end of Llyn Ogwen, 5 miles S of Bethesda near the Ogwen Youth Hostel. There is a pay & display car park, but if this is full,as it often is,most people park on the pavement alongside the road.
This micro cache will take you to a very special place - a lake in a glacial valley.
Cwm Idwal (Cwm means valley)is a national nature reserve and one of the few places in Britain where the Snowdon lily can be found, and is an area to be treated with special respect. It is one of the best places and the most southerly British place, to see plants which were common during the cold glacial periods.Arctic-alpine plants such as moss campion and saxifrages can be seen in the cracks and crevices of the north facing slopes.
The geological features and vegetation of Cwm Idwal provide clear examples of the changes in Wales over eons and drew naturalist Charles Darwin here in the 19th century.
When you reach Llyn Idwal,in front of you, you will see the crevice known as the Devil's kitchen, hence the name of this cache. The kitchen is so named because the crevice looks like a chimney and as legend has it when there was cloud on the mountain it looked like smoke rising out of the chimney and it was said that it was the devil cooking.By the way, Idwal was the name of the son of one of the Welsh princes who was murdered by being drowned in the lake.
The cache is placed somewehere on the path that goes round Llyn Idwal so please do not venture off the path. The path though easy, can be wet, is suitable for children but not buggies. When we placed the cache there was Great crested Grebe nesting on the lake. Oh, there is no pencil in the cache......Enjoy.
