The path to the co-ordinates posted above follows a well trodden but sometimes muddy or rocky track up a slight gradient to a height of about 1500ft. Area can be blustery and is exposed so be prepared for the weather. The cache is preferably done on a clear day as the views are great in all directions.
This offset cache is so named for several reasons, firstly it is within sight of an existing cache with a similar name and secondly, on the path up to the co-ordinates posted at the top there are several very big depressions in the ground. I assume that these are shake holes and they are pretty impressive but to anyone with a vivid imagination like me, they could be seen as huge craters left by comets that have fallen to earth.
There is a lay-by with space for a couple of cars at the foot of the climb, just south west of the posted co-ordinates but to make it more fun I will not give you the co-ordinates for this spot.
The co-ordinates posted direct you to a very obvious feature at the summit and also another reason for the cache name. I know the word doesn’t exactly describe this feature but hey! Welcome to my church!!
Within sight of this obvious feature are some ‘ancient runes’ that give a name, the name of a group and a date. If you have picked a day with very poor visibility these ‘ancient runes’ can be found east of the given co-ordinates on a bearing of 116 degrees.
A= The no. of letters in the name(2 words) – the no. of vowels they contain
B= The no. of times the letter S appears in the name
C= The no. of letters in the 1st word of the name – the no. of letters in the 2nd word of the name.
D= 1st no. in date
E= No. of letters in the 1st word (of 3) of the group that adopted this site – the 5th no. in the date
F= No. of letters in the name – the no. of A’s in the 3 words of the group that adopted the site
G= 1st no. of date – 2nd no. of date
H= 2nd no. of date + 6th no. of date
J= No. of times the letter K appears in the groups name – 3rd no. of date
K= F + 3rd no. of date
Co-ordinates for the regular cache are:
N 51 AB.CDE W003 FG.HJK
The cache is near to a very popular walking route so please ensure the cache is completely hidden when replacing. Cheers.
