Geocache Description:

Nanticoke Watershed:  A watershed is the area of land where all of the water that is under it (or drains off of it) flows into the same place. Watersheds come in all shapes and sizes and they cross county, state, and national boundaries. In the continental US, there are 2,110 watersheds.

“Clear Brook” is a tributary of the Nanticoke River.  "Clear Brook”  flows into Hearn’s Pond and then continues onward to Beaver Dam Pond, Williams Pond, and the Nanticoke River in Seaford.  The Nanticoke River flows southwest through the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland into Tangier Sound, the Chesapeake Bay, and then into the Atlantic Ocean.  Thus, "Clear Brook” plays an important role in the Nanticoke Watershed.  The 725,000-acre Nanticoke watershed provides an excellent habitat of national significance for many threatened plants and animals.  It is the most biologically diverse watershed on Delmarva.  It supports excellent fisheries and the northernmost stands of bald cypress on the Atlantic Coast. It also has the highest concentration of bald eagles in the northeastern United States.
The term “Nanticoke” gets its origin from the Nanticoke Indians, who lived closely with the water and were accomplished in canoeing and fishing. Their name, which translates as "those who ply the tidal stream," illustrates their close association with the river and its watershed.
