Perto da povoação de Santa Rita, o Perímetro Florestal da
Conceição de Tavira estende-se ao longo da margem Sul da ribeira da
Gafa, numa área de 457 hectares. Historicamente, foi criada em 1916
e arborizada com eucalipto e acácia, com vista à produção de lenha
para alimentar os fornos de cal existentes na região. Mais tarde,
com a perda de interesse económico da sua exploração, a acácia
tornou-se uma espécie infestante, ocupando uma grande área na
mata.
Actualmente, após a intervenção do núcleo florestal, é possível
observar povoamentos jovens de pinheiro e sobreiro, e ainda
pequenos núcleos com azinheira, medronheiro, alfarrobeira e
eucalipto.
Foram construídas 6 represas na área da mata, que constituem
refúgios para a fauna podendo aqui se encontrar espécies como a
perdiz, o coelho, o javali e ainda um pequeno núcleo introduzido de
gamos.
Numa das extremidades da mata existe um parque de lazer criado pela
Câmara Municipal de Tavira, com infra-estruturas para a realização
de piqueniques e actividades lúdicas, e uma torre de vigia.
Destaca-se ainda a existência de um percurso pedestre, que passa
por alguns dos pontos mais atractivos da mata.
Close to the small village of Santa Rita, the Forest
Perimeter of the Conceição is located near the Mountain range of
Tavira - With an area of 457 hectares, one can find diverse tree
species and of cinegetic fauna, four small barrages and a leisure
park.
In the park there’s a miradouro/belvedere where you can enjoy the
panoramic views to the serrana zone, a playground, sanitary and a
space for picnics.
The Forest Perimeter of the Conceição de Tavira is extended
throughout the South edge of the ribeira of Gafa, in an area of 457
hectares. It was created in 1916 and eucalipto and acácia species
were planted, regarding the production of firewood to feed the
existing ovens of whitewash in the region. Later, with the loss of
economic interest of its exploration, the acácia became an
undesired species, occupying a great area in the bush.
Currently after the intervention of the forest nucleus, it is
possible to observe spots of pine and sobreiro, and still small
nuclei with azinheira, medronheiro, carob tree and eucalipto.
There are 6 small dams in the area, that constitute shelters for
the fauna - species as the partridge, the rabbit, the wild boar and
still a small nucleus introduced of gamos can be found.
In one of the extremities of the bush there's a leisure park
created by the City council of Tavira, with infrastructures for
picnics and playful activities, and an observation tower.
There are also some pedestrian trails, that passes for some of the
most interesting points of the area.

Esta é uma multi cache, pois o parque de lazer fecha durante
algumas alturas do ano. Para a completar não é necessário
entrar no parque de lazer, mas se estiver aberto, suba à torre
e aprecie a vista. Aproveite para passear pelos trilhos.
This is a multi cache because the park is closed some times
during the year. You don’t have to enter the park to
complete the cache, but if the park is open, do visit the tower to
enjoy the views and take a stroll using the tracks.
