Barva de Heredia is perhaps best known for the dormant Barva Volcano, with its forest covered crater, and the National Park Braulio Carrillo.
Sacramento is a small town outside Heredia, with plenty of history and culture to supplement its stunning volcano-side location.And while there you can attempt the climb of nearly 3,000m, or content yourself with some excellent hiking and wildlife encounters on the lower volcano slopes.
I would like to encourage more people to make the trip to the National Park. This cache is placed on the last kilometers to the park before it becomes a dirt road. You have about 4 kilometers ahead of you to reach the entrance. Please only move on if you have a 4x4 otherwise park your car in the next 500 meters (there are restaurants or houses where they would take care of your car) and continue by foot.
When you get to this location, park your car about 100 meters after the bridge.
The rubbermaid container is placed by the bridge on the right side if you're coming from Barva (on your left if you're coming from the vulcano) in a natural hole of the tree by the rocks. BYOP to sign the log!
The view is spectacular.
