Update 9/1/04: Terrain adjustment: Having visited the area several times in various conditions.... the conditions at the cache site can change DRAMATICALLY! Sometimes there is nice soft sand, and sometimes treacherous moss covered slippery rocks... the Terrain rating of 3* reflects the WORST possible conditions. On a good day, the terrain is as low as 1.5. So what kind of day were you there?
Cache Description: Just a short walk from "Shelob's Stair" to the south, but the actual Lair of the Giant spider is here among the rocks. Tread carefully as the way is steep and then becomes quite slippery.
And remember to be quiet and stealthy lest you wake the slumbering spider! Mwoo ha ha ha ahhhhhh! (scary maniacal laughter!)
Terrain Difficulty of 3 is based on the fact that you should time your visit with low tide, no big storms, no big swells, and no big dumps of rain. The ground can be rocky AND slippery! And to top it all off... you might get wet! So come prepared...
Cpl Kiwi (age 11) helped me place this one, but we were there on a sunny day at low tide, with no waves. Even so, we got wet, I slipped twice and scrapped my knees and elbows ... this one is meant to be a challenge! (At least it was for me!)
Remember, only you can decide if the conditions and your abilities make this one safe for YOU!
