Geocache Description:

Located on an island in the Wakulla River. Boat required.

This cache will get you out on the Wakulla River. The cache can be reached by canoe, kayak or powerboat. I suggest putting in at the Hwy 98 bridge and paddling upstream against the gentle current ~3 miles to the next bridge to float back down. It takes about 3-4 hours roundtrip and you will be treated to cool clear water and MANY wildlife sighting opportunities including gators and manatees as well as an abundance of flowers and birds.

Cache is a small camoed plastic container which will fit TBs and other small itmes. Look in the cabbage palmetto in the center of the island at the coords. Please cover up well with palmetto fronds to make sure it stays hidden when you are done. I suggest approaching the island from the SW side to to find an easy landing.

The upstream Hwy 365 bridge is located at 30' 12.807, W84' 15.685. The downstream Hwy 98 bridge is located at N30' 10.561, W84' 14.695. Both have free boat ramps. The Hwy 98 ramp is concrete and there is a canoe rental place adjacent.

Note that there is the excellent state park showcasing the huge and deep springs upstream of this stretch of river. You can't canoe in here but the riverboat and glassbottom boat tours are awesome. Wakulla Springs State Park Look for the mammoth skeleton 125 feet below the surface.
