Geocache Description:

A great cache for all the family. Many interesting things to do and see in this area, from 12th century Monks through Victorians to the modern day. Situated on the Millennium Way and Bayr ny Skeddan (Herring Way) which coincide at this point.Cache and area is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Free parking at Rushen Abbey and at 54°05.966N 004°38.019W if you can walk or push a wheelchair a short way. If not there is limited Free parking at Silverdale.

Cache box and contents, new log book replaced 26th January 2006. Wee change to co-ordinates but within 3 metres of old site. Cache is now a painted lock box. . There is a bit of tree cover over the cache in summer so please decrypt the clue to help find the cache. BEWARE of MUGGLES. If you park at the Abbey take time to visit, small entrance fee but has free reciprocal with National Trust Cards and UK Heritage Cards. On the walk to the cache you will pass a Ford, maybe even taken the route through it, and pass a 12th Century Monks Bridge. You enter the Glen by a Gate on the right marked Silverdale. The pretty route through the Glen is down to the Silverburn (river ) but if you take the upper path through the Glen which is more suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs you will pass a Monk’s Well. Soon you will come out by the popular tourist area. Note the old mill, now the New Manx Energy Centre for renewable Energy. Visit Link (visit link) part was very popular with the Victorians, The Café is still running in the Summer so earn yourself a cup of tea or a Manx Ice Cream for finding the cache. The main attraction here is the Victorian Water-Powered Roundabout. The only one in the world I have been told. By pulling a lever the water is released onto a wheel which in turn powers the Roundabout which has beautiful Galloping horses. The Boating lake has pedallo boats and rowing boats for the brave. There are plenty of picnic and children’s play areas and the best of all is that there is no entrance fee to the Glen or for the Roundabout.
