Badgers? We Don't Need No Stinking Badgers Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Gertrude & Heathcliffe: It has been a good, long run. After seven years and nine months, "Badgers? We Don't Need No Stinking Badgers" has been muggled, or the cache container re-hidden so well that even we could not find it. So, after much consternation, cogitation and consultation (with the badgers), Gertrude and I have decided it is time to retire this cache.

We sincerely hope those of you who have found the cache and come to revisit us here, remember the fun time you had in searching for our badgers. We thoroughly enjoyed setting the cache up and keeping an eye out for our "badger hunters."

Geocache Description:

PERMANENTLY ARCHIVED: BADGERS HAS BEEN MUGGLED AFTER SEVEN YEARS AND NINE MONTHS OF ENJOYMENT. THANK YOU ALL FOR VISITING... THE BADGERS WILL SEE YOU IN YOUR DREAMS!

It’s 3:00 am. You’re in bed, restlessly tossing and turning and dreaming about your favorite pastime, geocaching. You’ve been doggedly driving after a set of crazy coordinates for what seems like hours when you enter into a thick bank of fog. Everything turns into this weird sickly gray color, kind of how your Uncle Bob looked when he chugged down your first batch of home-made Chinese chili.

With your windshield wipers flapping madly and trusting only your faithful GPSr you blindly make a sharp right turn heading up a hill. Still climbing upward you realize you have already gone past the waypoint, but there’s nowhere to park. “What a rotten place for a cache” you grumble as you continue on. Moments later a turnout in the roadway appears and you deftly guide the Hummer H2 geocaching machine you won at the last cache bash into the small parking space. “Alllll right,” you shout out to no one in particular. “Let’s get ready to rummmmmble!”

Jumping out of your rig you sense a quick and easy find as your GPSr indicates you’re only two hundred feet away from the prize. As you approach the waypoint however, the fog begins to lift and you find yourself staring unexpectedly at a huge wall of gigantic boulders. Seven hundred and sixty three boulders stacked ten feet high spanning a length of two hundred and ninety four feet. It gradually dawns on you that there is something very peculiar about this cache hunt. “Damn those devious micro-cache camouflaging seagulls,” you sob. “Now I’m gonna miss Oprah!”

Between each boulder is a shadowy crevice. As you move in closer spiders scurry across the rocks like a legion of hungry crabs late for a seafood buffet. You realize the obvious cache hiding place has to be in one of these crevices. But the holes are dark and ominous and each one has a resident pair of eyes following your every move. There’s a pungent odor emanating from the holes that smells a lot like wet badger. “Oh great, stinking badgers”, you mumble as you try to ignore your rising feeling of anxiety. With some hesitation you roll back your sleeve as you step forward and warily extend your hand deep into the first hole, eyes squeezed tightly shut while chanting over and over “I’ve got to be first to find, I’ve got to be first to find, I’ve got to be…”

“Arrrgghhh!!!” A hissing beady-eyed ball of fur is swiftly clawing up your arm just as you awaken, screaming in your bed, soaking in sweat with your heart pounding like it’s ready to launch out of your chest.

It’s 3:01 am. Welcome to... “Badgers? We Don’t Need No Stinking Badgers”…

Tips: IT IS NOT NECESSARY to climb on any boulders; besides, it upsets the badgers. In good weather this can be a very busy area; consider arriving very early or very late in the day. Due to being right off the road this may not be a good cache for small children; please use the appropriate caution. Please bring only one vehicle and don’t forget to bring a pen or pencil to sign the log. Pleasant dreams!

Warning: Logs that are a little too descriptive will be deleted so as to not spoil the fun. If this happens to you, please resubmit your log without giving anything away.

P.S. Did we say it is not necessary to climb on any boulders?
