Geocache Description:

Some of the greatest man made structures on the earth are our dams. This virtual cache aims to highlight the location of these massive engineering feats and show them off with hopefully some great photography from our fellow geocachers.

To log a dam it must be of a large size, that means no beaver dams or kiddie's creek blockages please. You know what I mean. An official water resources authority dam. The dam must be a wall that interrupts the flow of a river or creek etc, while creating and holding back it's own lake.

In a lot of cases you should be able to take a GPS reading in the centre of the dam wall, but if this is not possible, then a reading at the side, level with the wall will do. Take a photo of you with your GPS and the dam wall in the background. Please also include some information about the dam in your log together with the co-ordinates of course. Facts such as capacity, height, date of construction, supplied city, and of course the name of the river it controls will all help to make this cache interesting and informative for all.

The rules:
The same dam can only be logged once and this cache can be logged only once per geocacher. You must include your GPS in at least 1 photo of the dam wall. (No internet downloads or old vacation photos.) You must include the co-ordinates of the dam in your log. The altitude of the dam must be also be included. Weirs, causeways, pondages and reservoirs that do not involve a river or wall are not allowed. Disused or partially dismantled dams are not allowed, but mostly unused dams such as those built as large flood control stations are ok. I will polish up these rules further as circumstances arise so keep an eye on this report.

The Co-ordinates given here are at the centre of Australia's largest capacity dam, Warragamba Dam near Sydney NSW. The dam supplies most of the water for the city of Sydney. I have kept the info and photography to a minimum in case someone would like to log this particular dam.
