Geocache Description:

Cache is located in a wild natural area about 2 miles southeast of Hanover, Illinois. The entrance to the Nature Preserve is a little hard to spot – watch for an opening into the trees on the left side of the road, partially up the hill and blue reflective numbers 8995. There is a small parking lot and information sign. The cache is located just off the trail, a short walk from the parking area.

From IL 84, which runs through Hanover, turn west at the north end of the Apple River Bridge (you might spot a sign for "Blanding's Landing.") Follow the road around the river and past the cemetery. Take a left at the fork, then watch for the entrance to the nature preserve partway up Hanover Hill. The entrance is hard to spot -- look for blue reflective numbers 8995. This is a fairly new conservation area with wild prairie and forested area. Be sure to continue walking the paths beyond the cache for the full experience. Bring bug spray and watch for blackberries to eat. Even though the cache is just off the trail, you may want to wear long pants. Cache is a small plastic container just off the trail. Contains a log book, pencil and a few small trading items. $2 and a lucky Illinois penny for FTF; $1 for STF. There is also a free pass to the Museum of the Rockies in my second hometown of Bozeman, MT for the first person who might visit the northern Rockies. (My first hometown will always be here in Hanover) Enjoy your visit to Hanover, also known as the Mallard Duck Capital of the World! The path toward the cache is open, but since the cache is slightly in the woods, you may want to wear long pants and bring bug spray! Congrats to H20_BUOY for FTF! Dave+Kathi - STF
