L'Estany de la Gola és d'unes dimensions considerables. Durant la dècada dels 60 (s.XX) s'hi va iniciar la construcció d'una presa per fer arribar aigua a una central hidroelèctrica a Unarre, però es va abandonar el projecte abans d'acabar-lo. El resultat de tot allò va ser una pista forestal , l'augment de la capacitat de l'estany i una colla d'edificacions mig enrunades que, el 2009, van ser definitivament eliminades tot aprofitant les seves restes per construir un refugi lliure que trobareu pujant al llac.
Per arribar-hi heu de fer cap a Unarre i després seguir cap a Cerbi. Una mica abans d'arribar-hi (a N 42º 39.324 E 001º 08.933) heu de girar a la dreta i seguir la pista forestal.
Tot i que, en principi, és per 4X4, si teniu un una mica d'experiència per camí de carro i no gaires manies, podeu pujar-hi amb qualsevol cotxe que sigui una mica alt de baixos.
Només trobareu una altra cruïlla al cap de molt poc i ja trobareu indicacions cap a l'estany de la Gola (a mà dreta també). La pista us porta fins a un aparcament.A partir d'aquí és a peu. En 25 minuts arribareu al salt d'aigua seguint la pista forestal tancada al pas de vicles i en menys de 40 minuts més us plantareu a l'Estany. Si pugeu a peu des de la primera cruïlla, allargareu considerablement l'excursió (conteu un mínim de 1h 30'), però és una altra opció ben respectable.
Per trobar el tresor haureu d'enfilar-vos uns metres cap a la dreta un cop arribats a l'estany.
Us recomanem que un cop vist el gran estany de la Gola no deixeu l'excursió aquí i l'allargueu fins a l'Estany de Calverante o fins als Tres Estanys (trobareu indicadors que us hi guiaran).
