Geocache Description:

Welcome to Wellsdale, or now Camp Adair. Wellsdale was a small community with a school, a church, a store and a station on the Southern Pacific Railway Westside branch. The railway at onetime had electrified Interurban trains running between Portland and Corvallis. Then World War II broke out

The military was scouting locations to build a training camp for troops. The government picked Wellsdale as the site. The story goes that residents have seen the surveyors around for a few days. then one morning the government showed up at the schoolhouse and told the teacher that they need to vacate by the end of the day.

The military quickly went to work to build the new camp. The railroad was moved east from town which became the center of the military camp.

The railway today remains in the location it was moved to in 1942 and is the only "operating" section of what was the camp. The camp itself is a wildlife refuge, and full of many geocaches to explore.
