Geocache Description:

This cache is situated on one of our favourite stretches of the Pembrokeshire Coastal path, between Porth Clais and St Nons.

Porth Clais harbour lies at the mouth of the River Alun and was once the place where goods were brought ashore for the Cathedral in St Davids. Pilgrims would also land here and would walk to the shrine via St Nons Holy Well and Chapel. The narrow harbour was a busy port from the 16th Century, carrying not only pilgrims, but limestone to be burnt in the lime kilns which can still be seen. Nowadays the creek is visited by walkers, canoeists, boaters and climbers but the area still retains its peaceful air.
Along the coast is the chapel of St Non where, according to legend, St Non gave birth to St David in the 6th Century. A few yards from the chapel is a well which is said to have sprung up during a thunderstorm when he was born. Its waters are reputed to cure infirmity.
To get to the cache you have a choice of parking at Porth Clais and having a leisurely walk out and back along the coastal path, or for the keener walkers it is possible to park in St Davids and make a longer circular route. The area abounds in wildlife - flowers, insects, seabirds, seals etc and the views are stunning.
During the summer there is a kiosk serving drinks and ice-creams in the car park at Porth Clais, and there are plenty of excellent cafés, pubs and restaurants in St Davids.
This can be quite a busy stretch of the coastal path, particularly with climbers, so please be discreet when retrieving the cache.
