Geocache Description:

Welcome to Deadman's! We figured it was time to have a cache on this popular local island.

The terraine on this cache is a 5 simply because you need a boat or kayak to access it. There is plenty of room to anchor and a few State Park buoys that you can tie up to. Watch for muggles, on a summer weekend, this place can be packed! This cache was placed with the permission of Ranger Tom and the Washington State Parks Commission, and we ask that you respect the park, stay on the trails, and leave the area how you found it. There is no need for bushwhacking or destroying any surrounding plantlife. This is a log only cache, so bring your own pen. Please replace exactly how you found it.

Cutts Island (known also as Deadman's, Crow Island, and Scotts Island) is a two-acre marine park situated on Carr Inlet. During low tide, the island has a very nice sand beach. The island features clay cliffs that allow visitors to walk to the top of the island and enjoy the view. The island is covered with various vegetation, and visitors need to be aware of poison oak. Cutts Island, which sets in the water a half mile away from Kopachuck State Park, is also known as "Deadman's Island." The latter name derives from the belief that the island was used by saltwater tribes who buried their dead in canoes placed in the forks of trees. It is unknown how the island acquired the name "Cutts Island." Prior to its current popular names, the place was called "Crow Island," for the large quantity of crows explorer Peter Puget discovered there in 1792, and later "Scotts Island," in honor of Thomas Scott, quartermaster of the 1841 Wilkes expedition.

The geocache may be placed on Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission managed property only by written permission from the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission.
The following items shall not be placed in the geocache: Food items; illegal substances; medications; personal hygiene products, pornographic materials; inappropriate, offensive, or hazardous materials or weapons of any type. Log books are required for each cache and are to be provided by the owner of the cache.
