Geocache Description:

G.W.A.T is a micro cache located in the American Legion Park Elizabethtown Kentucky.


G.W.A.T stands for: Guess What Another Tank. This little vehicle is located just inside the American Legion Park

The M 114 Armored Command Reconnaissance Vehicle was originally used as a battlefield reconnaissance vehicle. It was short lived due to it’s off road performance when it was faced with a steam fording or ditch crossing.

Vehicle Facts :

  • Manufactured by Cadillac Motor Car Division of General Motors Corporation, USA
  • Brought into service in 1962 taken out of service in 1980.
  • Designated as the M114 Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle with a M114A1-New Commander‘s weapon station variant, (Note the plaque on the tank that made this vehicle a hybrid and who designed this hybrid and where it was tested.).
  • Length: 14.6 feet
  • Width: 7.64 feet
  • Height: 7.5 feet
  • Weight: 6.8 tons
  • 1 Chevrolet 283-V8 Military 8-cylinder, 4- Transmission generating 60HP @ 4,200RPM
  • Max Speed: 36 mph
  • Max Range: 275 miles.
  • 1 x 12.7 heavy machine gun
  • 1 x 7.62mm machine gun
  • 1,000 x 12.7mm ammunition
  • 3,000 x 7.62mm ammunition
  • Chassis featured a welded assembly and rolled aluminum hull.
  • Weapon traversal was 360 degrees for both gun positions.

Look low there is no need to climb on the vehicle.

The cache container is a 35mm film container hidden in a most un-conspicuous spot due to the number of muggles that visit this park on a regular day. So be aware of prying eyes. The park opens at 8:00 AM until dark.
