Geocache Description:

Most people's experience of the Alport Valley only extends to the famous castles. However, a trip to the seldom-visited upper reaches of the River Alport is well worth the effort imho.

WARNING: By seeking this or any other cache placed by me you accept responsibility for your own safety. Caching can be dangerous. Assess the risk for yourself before seeking this cache. Do not attempt this cache in bad weather. It is best not attempted alone. The cache is in a remote location. The terrain can be very boggy in parts, and the valley sides are steep.

When, after much effort, I bagged BexyBear's Bowland cache, I thought I'd been rewarded with a rather fetching FTF badge. It was only upon my return home that I realised it was in fact a TB that required me to set a new cache. So here it is!

The cache can be reached from several directions, so I won't try to influence your decision. Suffice to say that no approach is likely to be easy. I'd be interested to read what route each cacher takes.

Note that the steepness of the valley sides means that the coordinates cannot be completely accurate, so take the spoiler! The valley also appears to be a haven for midges, so be prepared (I wore my rather fetching midge net at the cache site, which worked a treat but could have been embarrassing if anyone had chanced upon me!).
