Geocache Description:

This is our annual Campout, splinter group of the Hard Rock Mining Company and time to combine our caching and Ham Radio Hobbies. Ham and FRS radio active during our annual campout and a static Traditional cache the rest of the year. March 2006 Name change to: Tech Rock Ham

Rating is for non-4x4 cachers and cachers without the use of hints, otheriwse 2/2 rating. Simplest entry for any vehicle is I-10 at Wiley's Wells Rd, head south about 14.6 miles. The road is an improved graded road. The next road is about 5.6 miles of jeep trail, sandy and rocky washes. My Honda Civic had no negotiation issues and I was able to park within 100 feet of the cache, but this is desert, subject to flash flooding in winter and spring, extreme heat in the summer. 4x4 is recommended but not necessary under normal conditions. Cellular service is spotty in the area. Verizon Analog and Cingular/T-Moible were available in most spots. Caching buddy vehicles highly recommended unless 4x4.

Container is an olive drab 81 mm Mortar Canister, 21" long by 4" in diameter. Stocked appropriately with a White Jeep TB and the following loot: Maglight with Bats, 4 AA spare bats, 48' nylon cord, mosquito head net, and other various swag.

Be sure to reset the cap on tightly until you feel the "detent" to insure a water tight seal.

3 other easy caches along the roadway if that helps entice you out on this tuffie. Also The cache: "Hard Rock Mining Company #1" (GCHZJA) is .6 miles away and worth giving a shot. For more information on the general and safety prep, "The BRADSHAW TRAIL #25" (GCMDMB) provides a very good introduction to the area.

Next Year (tentatively: 12-27 to 12-29-2006) hail us Hard Rock Hams on 146.52 Mhz, 446.500 Mhz or FRS Channel 7, no code to say hi to the group or if you need more help in the finding of our cache.
