Geocache Description:

Footpath alongside the River OUSE

NB. FROM MAY 07 to JULY 08 THE OLD RAILWAY LINE IS BEING CONVERTED TO THE GUIDED BUS ROUTE INTO CAMBRIDGE AND THEREFORE FULL ACCESS ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE ROADWAY MAY BE RESTRICTED AT TIMES, ALTHOUGH WE WOULD EXPECT IT TO BE CROSSABLE AT POINTS WHERE THE PUBLIC FOOTPATH CROSSES.

This is one in a series of caches, each of which will yield clues, to the final one “LAST DOSE”. Each cache will give you a number that corresponds to the letters a~j which in turn will give you the co-ordinates for this It can be accessed via the Fenstanton Footpaths, a copy of the map can be purchased from a number of local outlets especially the Post Office in Fenstanton (located near the clock tower). This costs 30p and is not necessary in order to find any of the caches but might add to the enjoyment of the walks The map can also be obtained from the Norris Museum in St Ives in a pack with details of the other walks in the area.-

Parking in Chequer Street, Fenstanton close to either of the 2 green areas will be a good starting/finishing point for the reference caches. These can be done as 2 loops
Loop A. (2 miles) has –Permission Granted – Oyster Cacher – Clue on 2 – found along its way.
Loop B. (4.75 miles) has - Moore of a view - Bridging the gap - Slip Slipping away – Ouse between the gates – Osier Be(n)d – Fengate dozen. (not necessarily in that order)

Continue northwards along the path with the large ditch/drain to your right passing a small bridge about half way. When you get to the end at the river the oldest pub in England (this honour being currently contested by the Trip to Jerusalem in Nottingham Castle) is just a few hundred yards to your right, plus a short swim! There was a ferry (do it yourself type) available until the 60’s here but sadly removed.
CONTENTS: Lotto dice, pen, coin, shell, silk flower, shoe horn, bracelet

After finding the cache you turn westwards with the River Ouse on your right, enjoying the views across the water to the village of Holywell.
