The Parque Natural los Alcornocales, is a natural park which is
known for contributing to about half of the country's cork resource
as well as for the large quantity of hawks, eagles and vultures
that can be found in the area.
We discoverd the forest road through the Valle de Ojen on our
way from Vejer de la Frontera to Gibraltar by accident. You can
reach the bumpy road either from the small town Facinas (N36 08.909
W5 42.841), which is about 20 kilometers north of Tarifa, or from a
place near Los Barrios (N36 12.577 W5 32.629) which is about 20
kilometers west from Gibraltar.
Park you car here: N36 09.556 W5 34.906
You can follow the trail about 800 meters until you are about 30
meters from the cache location away. Shortly before you reach the
cache, the elevation changes and you have to "climb" a few
meters.
At the cache location (N36 09.905 W5 34.875) there is a small
area with a good GPS reception and there is a good view through the
valley. The cache is hidden between rocks which are abundantly
covered with vegetation. It is a 25 x 15 x 7 cm container wrappend
in a black plastic bag.
Besides the obligatory logbook, cache note, pencil and pencil
sharpener, the cache initially contained:
- Small lock with keys
- Screwdriver
- Lighter
- Austrian euro coin
- Small toy cell phone
Note on cache maintenance: A friend of mine, who
is a professional kite surfer and is several times a year in
Tarifa, will take care for the cache.
