The Hole (Bucks) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Rocky Balboa: The Hole is being archived after it had to be moved away from the Hole itself. Unfortunatly it was sitting on private land and therefore seeing the hole, the entire point of the cache became impossible. This is very sad as it was such an intresting place. Thanks to all who visited!

Geocache Description:

At the peak of Westside Hill on the outskirts of Cheddington, is something not many people know about. Follow your GPS for a creepy surprise. What you failed to see at first will be right before your eyes.

Warning - Please read the following precautions.

Parents should arrive at the 'hole' at the same time as any children.
We accept no responsibility for anyones actions on site.
Footwear should be well chosen as the area can be extremely muddy.
Entering fenced areas is NOT necessary to complete the cache.

After a recent visit by 'Simply Paul' it has been pointed out that the area is not on a footpath so the cache has been kindly moved to the coords at the top of this page, close by the origonal location. However, for those who wish to get a closer look the 'Hole' can be found at N51° 50.642 W000° 40.457. A good way to access the area is by locating 'The Baulk' which is a small sideroad at the base of the hill. From here follow the fields edge until you have a line of wooden electricity carrying poles in view. These will lead you to your goal. Visiting this site is however not suggested, we are simply letting you know that it exists and your actions are your choice, don't say we didnt warn you !

Another view of some of Buckinghamshire’s much unknown and undocumented sub terrainia is the prize of the finder. Who knows what lies below the ground? one thing is for sure, this place is dark, wet and made us uneasy. Opened in July 1960 & closed in 1991, the Cheddington ROC bunker (Which is similar to the one found at the 'nuclear bunker' cache) is now a long forgotten & heavily weathered hole. In the event of Nuclear War these shelters would be used to measure radio-activity. Now disused, this location has been vandalised and is one of the only examples of this kind of bunker to be easily accessible. This is however not recommended.

The Row of trees directly behind the Bunker is labelled as 'cultivation terraces' on Ordanance survey maps and were allegedly once roman gardens of some kind. Please respect the area as it adjoins fields which are not public. However, the path is frequented by dog walkers and there should be no problem as long as visitors stick to the edge and stay on the grass. Visiting this cache during the darker hours is recommended. It certainly has an atmosphere around it. Good luck, & remember a torch; you never know when you might need it.
