Hey Myrtle, hike or bike? Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

xy,xx,xy,xy,xy,xy: Sadly, this area was burned over by the Wolverine fire in August 2015. I'l retrieve whatever may be left of the cache when the area reopens, which won't likely be for at least another year.

Geocache Description:

A four mile one way hike from the end of the Entiat River Road. Trail open to hikers, bicycles, motorcycles and horses. Steady but moderate elevation gain. Beautiful mountain lake just outside Wilderness boundary. A northwest forest pass is required to park at the trailhead.

I've been to this lake several times on my mountain bike, but this time, I backpacked in with the boys of BSA Troop 8 and spent a night at Myrtle lake before tackling some serious elevation gain for our second night camping at Larch lake (5800 ft) via Cow Creek Meadows (5220 ft) and an unnamed pass (6800 ft). Bikes are not allowed beyond Myrtle Lake. Parking lot is at 3130 ft, Myrtle Lake is at 3763 ft. If you go on as we did, expect a 19 mile round trip from the trailhead and Nearly 4000 ft in elevation gain. The loop trip is worth every bit of effort as the scenery goes from great to fan-freakin-tastic as you go from Myrtle, to the Meadows, to Larch.
