Geocache Description:

Park at the well-marked Lake 22 trailhead which is located 2 miles east of the Verlot Public Service Center on the Mtn. Loop Hwy.

The Lake 22 Trail follows Twenty-Two Creek the entire way, climbing continuously, but not steeply through old-growth timber and a large talus slope. The trail is used year-round and sees much activity on summer weekends. The 2.7 mile hike to the lake is of moderate difficulty. There is an elevation gain of 1500 feet from the parking area to the lake. My seven and eight year old boys negotiated the trip easily, but younger children may have a harder time. The cache is located on the rocky slope approximately 2/3 of the way to the lake. You'll get good satellite reception at the cache location, but not great. Accuracy readings when I placed the cache were between 51 and 68 feet. The cache is uphill of the trail approximately 20 feet. Please use caution! Elevation readings from the trail near the cache were approximately 2074 ft. You will have unobstructed views from here.Be sure to continue on up to the lake if you haven't been there before, it's well worth the trip. The lake is in a glacier carved basin on the north flank of Mt. Pilchuk. Fishing can sometimes be quite good as the lake is 53 ft. deep. There is an advisory to not drink the water in the lake as there is a possibility that it contains the parasite Giardia lamblia. Also, campfires and overnight camping are not permitted in the area.
