Geocache Description:

This is first in an occasional series of caches near triangulation pillars.

Triangulation pillars (more commonly known as trigpoints) were used by the Ordnance Survey in order to determine the exact shape of the country. They are generally located on the highest bit of ground in the area, so they typically have a good view and a nice walk to reach them. For more information about trigpoints, visit Teasel's excellent Trigpointing site.

Access to this cache is possible via several routes over the access land. We would recomend parking at N 54° 48.274 W 002° 06.102 and heading for the gate/stile at N 54° 48.160 W 002° 06.636. To get to the stile, you can take either the footpath or the track, but both peter out fairly quickly, so just make for the stile. From here cross the stile and excercise your "Right to Roam", keeping the fence on your left and heading towards the trigpoint. Alternatively, you can follow the "footpath" through the gate 150 feet from the stile, but it's hard going and you will need to cross at least one fence as some of the gates seem to have done a disappearing act. Please note, like many caches on the moors, this should not be attempted without suitable clothing, a map and a compass (and the skill to use them!). The weather can change fast and it can get very wet and cold at any time of year. However, if you have enjoyed this cache, others with a similar feel include the nearby Bolt's Law (GCA34C) and Stoterly Hill (GC8E82).

As per the guidlines, none of our caches are buried, placed in animal holes or hidden in dry stone walls. Please email us with your coordinates if you feel they differ significantly from ours.

P.S. There was a small prize for the first person to find this cache; although it's now gone, you could see if you can find it...
